choice was founded in 1998 by the Social Science Research Centre Berlin (Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung – WZB), the StattAuto Carsharing and the Berlin Public Transport Company (Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe – BVG) amongst others. The cause for this endeavour was the implementation of the research project “Cash Car: Turning Private Car Use Into a Core Element of Integrated Traffic Services“. The project developed an entirely new leasing concept, which had significant consequences on the conceptual development and spread of car sharing. Since 2003, Choice has continued as an independent research, consulting and development company with a focus on bike sharing, e-mobility and intermodal concepts.
